Unit Three -- Dark Romanticism and Realism

ELAALRL4 The student employs a variety of writing genres to demonstrate a comprehensive grasp of significant ideas in selected literary works. The student composes essays, narratives, poems, or technical documents.- 1)I think that we will learn about the different writing texts ,and the main idea of the texts

Short Review
What is original sin?The original sin all goes back to Adam and Eve when they did and they made sins.
How did the Transcendentalists feel about it?They did not believe that the original sin committed by Adam and Eve made the rest of us sinners

2)What would your argument to this philosophy be? Are all people good? Is the voice inside people's heads the pure voice of God?My argument would be that all voices in people heads are not the voice of God.Some people may think God is talking to them, but he's really not.People does evil things, and god doesn't tell people to do evil things,so I would argue about that.

3)Which side of the divide do you fall? Are you closer to being a Transcendentalist or a Dark Romantic? Explain your answer with a short paragraph. I think that the side I'll fall for is the Dark Romantic, because Transcendentalist believes in the most crazies things.I think that god is the strongest power in the Universe, and they think the Human Kind is .And also they believed that people thoughts were the voice of god,but I doesn't agree with that.

4)The story I read was The Cast of Amontillado. This caught my interest ,because it was easy for me to understand. This story is very devious, and it seems like a lot of revenge,so that's how the story illustrates Dark Romantic. An very familiar example is -"The thousand injuries of Fortunato I had borne as best i could; but when he ventured upon insult , I vowed revenge.".This is evil doing, and that Dark Romantic.

5)The Raven is a very interesting story.I read it two times to rally understand it good.A few lines that stuck out to me was "That I scarce was sure I heard you"--here I opened wide the door--Darkness there and nothing more. ".This evidence made me think the man was hearing things or imagining things.

The Anti Transcendental idea is that in the poem they thank that god cannot speak to the people, and this is a sign of evil from the devil. An example that caught my attention was -"Prophet!" said I, "thing of evil!--prophet still, if bird or devil!--Whether Tempter sent, or whether tempest tossed thee here ashore,Desolate, yet all undaunted, on this desert land enchanted--On this home by Horror haunted--tell me truly, I implore--Is there--is there balm in Gilead?--tell me--tell me, I implore!"Quoth the Raven, "Nevermore".This is an major example of anti-transcendalists,because the devil is being talked about, and the Raven is an evil spirit, that's why the man seems likes he's loosing his mind.

6)The Raven to me is a symbol of death or the devil. And this symbolizes that someone has died, because a raven at night time has to symbolize something.

7)ELAALRL1 The student demonstrates comprehension by identifying evidence (i.e., examples of diction, imagery, point of view, figurative language, symbolism, plot events and main ideas) in a variety of texts representative of different genres (i.e., poetry, prose [short story, novel, essay, editorial, biography], and drama) and using this evidence as the basis for interpretation. For this standard,I symbolized what the Raven is in the story in question # 6.

ELAALRL2 The student identifies, analyzes, and applies knowledge of theme in a work of American literature and provides evidence from the work to support understanding. This standard, I provides direct evidence in question #5,to support my answer.

ELAALRL3 The student deepens understanding of literary works by relating them to their contemporary context or historical background, as well as to works from other time periods. For this standard, I related how to Raven is anti transcendalists by comparison, because the Raven is a sign of evilness, and anti transcendalists are nothing but evil people.

8)a. details that specifically explain a characters actions, or detailed descriptions of a setting-This story is very interesting. It's about a lady named Mrs.Millard ,and she had a heart disease. Her sister tries to explain the news to her without making her loose it or stresses her.Somehow after hearing the news she isn't sad or miserable, she's happy. In the story it says "There stood, facing the open window, a comfortable, roomy armchair",so this means she went in sat in an chair looking out a window. So toward the end of the story, she she felt happy about the death of her husband, and after that, her sister made her come down stairs, and someone was opening the door, and she died from a heart disease, the doctor said.

b. a social issue that Chopin wants to solve -A social issue that Chopin wants to solve,is that what she;s happy about the death ,mostly people would be sad or miserable."That's weired."

9)a. details that specifically explain a characters actions, or detailed descriptions of a setting. This story is about Fredrick Douglas. This story explain the actions on how he was in a fight with Mr.Covey, and how he was beaten so badly.Douglas worked as a slave and did his work.Douglas wanted respect so he told the master, and,Mr.Covey got tired and told to Douglas that "If I wouldn't have resisted he would have whipped me half so much.",so since then on Douglas earned respect from him.

b. a social issue that -The social issue,is that Fredrick is explaining how difficult slavery was for them, and how the slaves was treated.

10)A modern example of realism is a movie called Biker Boys. It's about a motorcyclist group in a town racing and going against other biker groups. This is realism, because in today's world, theirs motorcyclist groups doing that.Direct quote from the King of one of the motorcycle groups,"burn rubber not your soul".

11)To me,I like realism the best, because it like real life features, and nothing fake.

On this sunny hot summer day at the park was lots of boys playing basketball. While the boys was playing ,another boy came up and he asked to play, and they avoided him.Like 15 minutes after playing a game, they boy asked again could he join in to play, they still avoided him. While sitting to play the waiting boy, screamed once again"can I play".so after he screamed,he caught one of the players attention, and the player was huge.He weighted about 180 and 5"7,and the young boy was only 140 and 5 feet. The huge boy pushed him to the ground and put his big size 11 foot shoe on his chest, and said"No you cant play, and ask again and I will be forced to thrash you".So the boy got up and the teams resumed playing basketball, and the boy just sat and watched sadly.

My story is an example of Realism, because explain how real life features happen to kids at a park playing basketball.Lots of kids had been treated in this kind of way,and this isn't made up ,it's real ,it's happen before.

My story is a very good representation of realism, because it tells how the characters are and their feelings. The environment is at a park, that's realism. The main idea is that another boy, wants to join in ,and play basketball, but some bad ball players, want let him,and they doesn't even know if he's a good ball player or not.

12)ELAALRL1 The student demonstrates comprehension by identifying evidence (i.e., examples of diction, imagery, point of view, figurative language, symbolism, plot events and main ideas) in a variety of texts representative of different genres (i.e., poetry, prose [short story, novel, essay, editorial, biography], and drama) and using this evidence as the basis for interpretation.Yes,I've met this standard, because I have the ability to provided evidence from the stories, that I've read.

ELAALRL3 The student deepens understanding of literary works by relating them to their contemporary context or historical background, as well as to works from other time periods.Yes,I've also met this standard, this standard, talks about how to compare the historical background to the modern time.Like comparing old music to new music, but the same category of music,Ex"like T.I. to Tupac.

Unit Two-Romanticism and Transcendentalism

1)I think that theme is the main idea or main plot of an story. No,you cant know what the theme is until you have read the story or a paragraph, then you can figure out what the theme is.The standard juss means, that the student should breakdown and analyze whatthe story is talking about, and that the studemt should use evidence from the story.

2)I think the romantic part about the story is that he loved his family.Aslo something else thats romanticism from the story is that he sleeps for over 20 years and imagines things, and romaticms is really your imgaination of something that isnt really real .

3)This poem first illustrates nature and death.he says in the poem that "if anyone is sceare of nature, that they should go out into the nature and listen to the voices",-(that's the direct evidence). You cant really listen to the voices because nature doesnt talk,so i guess this is how he's sayin to use your imagination. The second focus was strange because he saying that the nature are talking to the writer,it;s saying that anyone who sceared of nature shouyldnt be sceared because nature cant hurt you.The last theme illustrates that he's saying that anyone who dies is the same thing as an king or something.

4)ELAALRL1-With this, I addressed the standard when I explain what he said in question 3,and i thinks that's him using imagery.

ELAALRL2 -with this standard we have to use evidence in what we are tlking about. If we're telling something about a story,we will use direct evidence ,i used this standard in question 3.

ELAALRL3-This standard means, that relating someing old to something in todays world.Like an rapper back then to an rapper ntoday, with the same style of rapping.

5)Nature" by Ralph Waldo Emerson-What Ithought about the piece of writing is that ,the only thing the Author really talked about was Nature.I didnt really get what he was meaning, but all of the ways how the author thinks is crazy to me.Like when it says "To speak truly few adult persons can see nature. Most persons do not see the sun".
Self-Reliance" by Ralph Waldo Emerson-In this story it talks about how mens working ang accomplishing things. It says,"Great men have always did so fine and confided themselves childlike to the genius of their age.

6)Next, write explain how each piece is a good example of Transcendentalism by identifying the central themes I described earlier in the post. Use what you read above, and prove that each piece is a good example with a paragraph supported with direct evidence (one paragraph each).

Nature" by Ralph Waldo Emerson-One of the Central themes that sticks out to me is when the Author sed :Nature says-he is my creatureand maugre, all his impertinent griefs,he shall be
glad with me",I guess this is like how they believed god could communicate to peole through nature...
Self-Reliance" by Ralph Waldo Emerson- An good example of Transcendentalsim is that voices is talking are talking example"These are voices which we hear in solitude but they grow faint and inaudible as we into the world.

7) How can you apply Transcendental philosophy to the man in this video? I'm sure you could easily spend a couple paragraphs telling me how. I also know it would be easy for you to back up whatever you say with direct evidence from the texts you have already read. If you are really into it, you might read a little of Henry David Thoreau's Walden Just choose a couple sections you think you would like.
This is very good video I think. It's amazing how this man lived in the wilderness for 35 years and maede it by hisself. He found space and built him an house or cabbin, and made a place for him to live.He ate fish from the lake near his house. This is an example of Transcedental because it's just the man really believed noone was thier but god and him,and the wild animals. And also he was in the Nature life.
